Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Markt ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our platform and API. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to handling your data responsibly.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you register, we collect your name and email address. If you sign up via a third-party auth provider (e.g. Google), we receive the information that provider shares with us in accordance with their privacy settings.

1.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with Markt, including pages visited, features used, API calls made, analysis queries submitted, and timestamps. This data helps us improve the platform and enforce plan quotas. Product names you search may be anonymously retained to improve our market trend data. No personally identifiable information is stored alongside these terms.

1.3 Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your card number, CVV, or full payment details on our servers. We retain only the last four digits of your card, expiry month/year, and billing name as returned by Stripe for display purposes.

1.4 Technical Data

We collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and device identifiers for security, fraud prevention, and analytics. We do not sell your information.

1.5 API Keys

API keys you generate are stored in hashed form. We log API call metadata (endpoint, timestamp, response code, usage count) but do not log the content of your queries beyond what is necessary for caching and quota tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Account managementCreate and maintain your account, verify identity, and authenticate sessions via Clerk.
Service deliveryProcess product analysis requests, return scores and signals, and cache results in Supabase.
BillingManage your subscription, process payments via Stripe, and send receipts.
Quota enforcementTrack API usage against your plan limits and block requests that exceed them.
CommunicationsSend transactional emails (receipts, alerts, quota warnings). We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
SecurityDetect fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access; investigate and respond to security incidents.
Product improvementAnalyse aggregate usage patterns to improve features, reliability, and performance.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 Service Providers

We share data with trusted third-party service providers who process it on our behalf under data processing agreements:

3.2 Legal Obligations

3.3 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice on the platform before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or accounting purposes (typically up to 7 years for billing records).

Cached analysis results are stored for up to 24 hours to improve response times. API call logs are retained for 90 days for security and debugging purposes.

5. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your session active and to understand how visitors use Markt. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie banner or in Privacy Settings.

5.1 Essential Cookies

These cookies are required for the platform to function and cannot be disabled. They include authentication session tokens managed by Clerk that keep you signed in securely.

5.2 Analytics Cookies (optional)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous data about how visitors interact with Markt. This helps us understand which features are used most, improve performance, and fix issues. We implement GA4 Consent Mode v2 — no analytics data is collected until you explicitly accept cookies.

5.3 No Advertising Cookies

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or tracking technologies that build individual user profiles for advertising purposes.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage at rest, hashed API keys and passwords, and row-level security policies in our database. Access to production data is restricted to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

8. Children's Privacy

Markt is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. International Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in countries outside your own, including the United States and EU member states, where our service providers operate. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to ensure adequate protection for cross-border transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Markt after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
